What are dreams?

If you’re a scientist, dreams are your sub-conscience telling you your innermost desires. And if you’re an artist, you’d say dreams are a way of escaping reality.

I can sort of understand both. But here’s the problem:

The only thing i know about mine is that its always in black & white.

I don’t remember what or who i dreamt about.

So how am i supposed to “realise my innermost desires” or “escape from reality“?
